FANTAIL BIRD..NEW ZEALAND NATIVE..

THIS IS A PICTURE HEAVY POST..

Hello everyone,

I have been really busy in my craftroom lately, getting ahead with DT work to free up some time and also doing 2 very large and time consuming projects for people..one was a friend who asked me how I did one of my canvases in my room and could I make one a lot bigger to go outside but under shelter and include a Fantail, which is a little native bird of New Zealand with lots of superstition for our native Maori population..this bird is the symbol for her tribe up north..

So here we go...this canvas had already been started, I was playing around with paint and a leaf stencil then glued on a picture frame, popped in in the cupboard and there it sat for 2 years or so...until now..

I then sourced out some pictures off the net of Fantails and I think this was the first one I found and loved as he was easy to fussy cut out, so did him twice..the pretty jeweled fan in the background was a  was a comb to decorate your hair with, but decided not to use it..

So this was the original canvas that I had started and in this first photo, I had started adding my clay embellishments that  I made on a clay making embellishments day 😄

Added corrugated card board, plastic photo frames and honeycomb cardboard from the inside lining of a box...wish I had more of that, just saying quietly..

Just kept gluing and adding stuff...does not matter what you add, anything will do, you are just filling gaps...

Buttons, old vintage metal buckles...

Glass beads and nuts from the hardware store..

Then you paint it all black, every inch, nook and cranny, paint it on thick, so no white is showing...

Looks more grey here, but it is black..

So while that is drying and you are having a well deserved sit down as your back is about to break  from standing for about 6 hours so far...it's time to fussy cut your bird...and then...

Crackled him..yummy crackle, and makes him thick and strong..

I perched him on the canvas to see how he would look..after I had covered him in my embellishment mousse to change and deepen his colour..

Which made him loose his face....but I will make him a new one in a minute..

I printed him again on printer paper, as it is nice and soft, and should melt onto the other bird using the multi medium matt gell...

and it did..he has his face back..

Back up on my feet and time to start spraying the colours on..

I think this procedure [for me anyway,] is a hit and miss.

In some places I think it was too blue, then too pink, and in the end I asked the lady herself and she was very happy...

Not too blue and not too pink, just the colours she wanted..thank goodness for that as I needed to sit again..😊

So there we go, not as many photos as I thought, so that was good..

hope you are all well and safe and doing okay..
Thank you so much for stopping by and I will see you tomorrow..

This is stunning Chrissy, unless you have created something like this yourself its hard to imagine the process and time it takes, I always pannick before I start to add any paint, its weird, yours has turned out beautifully, I love all the texture and the colours will catch the light, worth the back ache....I think...haha.xx

Wow! How Wonderful.
LOve how it turned out Chrissy. LOts of various, different elements to it.
Absolutely love how you've shown us how you got to the finished project.
No wonder your back's bad with all that standing up. With any craft until you actually do things yourself? It's hard to comprehend how many hours are spent making an item. Good job we enjoy what we do!

I am amazed at the hours of work you put in to your projects but they are so amazing I totally understand. I am following along with this project as I am working on a steampunk style tag (hint hint) and have never attempted anything like this before. First class teacher!!
